Day 11: Adventures in Scotland
Day 11: Adventures in Scotland started early for me since I was on the beach at 4:18am on this gorgeous Saturday in June! The sky wasn’t totally clear for the sunrise, but the colors were still beautiful. It was 4:27am when I took the last picture of Marge & George (the seagulls). Sunrise on the beach was the perfect start of day 3 in Cullen.
Portsoy Boat Festival
There are many attractions that were in the plans for the 2020 trip to Scotland that I was able to see and do on the 2025 Scotland adventure. However, the timing of this adventure was entirely worked around the Glenglassaugh Scottish Traditional Boat Festival in Portsoy. The Portsoy Boat Festival was well worth the five year wait! The entertainment was fantastic, the local art was amazing, the boats were impressive and, as usual, all of the people were incredibly friendly.

Thankfully on our way to Portsoy our friends were able to introduce us to Scotland bus travel. My aunt and I were very happy to learn the ropes with friends rather than having the bus into Edinburgh be our initial bus ride the next week.
They also introduced us to the Portsoy Ice Cream shop. I didn’t even get ice cream because I’d been salivating for their Dubai Strawberry Pot for months!
Because it was quite warm my aunt and I were very happy to be able to ride the fun little train to see more of the festival vendors. All in all the Portsoy Boat Festival made for a delightful day!
Castle Hill
For five years I jealously looked at all of the pictures on the Cullen Past and Present Facebook group. I dreamed of being on Castle Hill and enjoying the views. Knowing this, my friend messaged me that RIGHT NOW was ideal for pictures. We had just gotten back from the boat festival when I got the message. Even though I was all set to put my feet up and relax I hurried up Castle Hill. The views over Seatown, the North Sea, Cullen harbor and beach, all the way to Portnockie were spectacular! I spent about 30 minutes enjoying the views, soaking up the moment and taking pictures. I might’ve stayed longer but I’d had enough of the 22MPH winds.

End of Day 11: Adventures in Scotland
Day 11 in Scotland was another day full of adventures. If you ever have a chance to go to any kind of gathering, whether it’s a festival, fair, or games, do it! It is an experience not to be missed.
The last thing that I wrote in my travel journal for this day was, “I was up at 4am for the sunrise and I’m heading out for the 10:15pm sunset… I might be certifiably crazy. Crazy ‘aboot’ Scotland, the North Sea, the weather, the history, and the extremely friendly people.”
It wasn’t until the third morning in Cullen that the sunrise wasn’t totally overcast. The sunsets were all incredibly gorgeous. On Saturday the Portsoy Boat Festival was so wonderful. Then to get all of the incredible pictures from Castle Hill was a dream come true. Sunday fulfilled even more dreams of time spent in Cullen.
